摘要: A singular stress field exists in an elastic substrate around the contact edge with a rigid flat-tipped indenter. This surface-contact-induced can also be described by intensity factor concept, if indentation Kind is introduced for cracking analysis. The Kind–controlled almost identical to that of Mode-I tensile crack tip, except negative sign due compressive nature surface loading. study presents energy-based fracture mechanics analysis (ISIF) and indentation-induced boundary within Kind-dominant region edge. It found critical exists, relation between toughness KIC-ind common KIC established analytically, showing = 2.5KIC. indentation-cracking angle at determined. model on induced indenter provides useful alternative measuring KIC, which characterization properties bulk bodies coating layered structures such as MEMS.
