摘要: Abstract By incorporating the effects of interfacial adhesion in mechanics rounded contact between two bodies, a new approach is proposed for quantitative analysis wide variety fatigue situations involving cyclic normal, tangential or torsional loading. In this method, conditions “strong” and “weak” are identified by relating fracture theories. Invoking notion that strong weak adhesive contact, square-root stress singularity exists at edge stick–slip boundary, respectively, mode I, II III intensity factors obtained sliding loading, accordingly. A comparison variations local with threshold factor range onset crack growth then provides critical initiation fatigue. It shown location within area initial direction from surface into substrate can be quantitatively determined approach. This method obviates need assumption an artifical length scale, i.e. size, use known concepts analyses complex edges. Predictions present compared experimental observations.
