摘要: Background and Objectives: This study’s objective was to evaluate the association between health literacy human immunodeficiency virus/acquired syndrome (HIV/AIDS) knowledge among patients seen at an inner-city, public hospital urgent care center (UCC). Methods: We used a prospective survey of offered HIV test by their providers during UCC visit. measured patients’ level using Rapid Estimate Adult Literacy in Medicine (REALM) scale assessed HIV/AIDS 22-item questionnaire. Results: A total 372 were enrolled. Among participants this relatively young sample (55% under age 40), 92 (25%) had REALM score or below sixth-grade level, 122 (33%) did not have high school diploma. Patients’ mean scores differed significantly with inadequate those marginal adequate literacy. In multivariate analyses, positively associated even after adjusting for income, education, risk perception. Conclusions: These findings demonstrate that is strongly inner-city population. reiterate need target prevention strategies toward populations levels dispel misconceptions regarding directly influence risk-taking behaviors utilization.
