摘要: Objective.-To establish the presence of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in human nontumorous and adenomatous pituitaries. Design, Setting, Patients.-Macrophage was demonstrated by immunocytochemistry on paraffin sections with a polyclonal antirecombinant murine MIF using streptavidin-biotin-peroxidase complex method. Nontumorous hypophyses (14 cases) obtained from autopsy 54 surgically removed pituitary adenomas were studied. In pituitaries, serial immunostained for both hormones MIF. Results.-Macrophage localized all corticotrophs, including basophils extending into posterior lobe, Crooke's cells, few thyrotrophs. The lobe immunonegative Densely (five sparsely (six granulated somatotroph lactotroph lacked immunostaining. Macrophage found 3 4 thyrotroph adenomas, 6 gonadotroph 10 11 functioning corticotroph 8 silent null cell oncocytic adenomas. immunopositivity diffuse or focal, intensity variable. Conclusions.-This study is first to demonstrate pituitaries an immunocytochemical staining technique.
