摘要: Recent experiments by several groups have uncovered a novel fingering instability in the spreading of surface active material on thin liquid film. The mechanism responsible for this is yet to be determined. In an effort understand phenomenon and isolate possible mechanism, we investigated linear stability coupled set equations describing Marangoni surfactant monolayer support. unperturbed flows, which exhibit simple behavior film thickness concentration, are self-similar solutions first kind rectilinear geometry. solution disturbance determines that base flows linearly stable. An energy analysis reveals why these can successfully heal perturbations all wavenumbers. details suggest, however, destabilized. We propose how inclusion additional forces acting coated might give rise regions adverse mobility gradients known produce instabilities other fluid flows.
