Sulfated cyclodextrins inhibit the entry of Plasmodium into red blood cells: Implications for malarial therapy

摘要: The effect of sulfated cyclodextrins on Plasmodium falciparum cultures was determined. alpha-, beta-, and gamma-Cyclodextrins having equal degrees sulfation inhibited parasite viability to a similar degree, result suggesting that the ring size cyclodextrin is not critical factor for inhibitory activity. beta-Cyclodextrins containing fewer than two sulfate groups had no activity, however, compounds 7-17 sulfates were found be active in microM range. Examination treated indicated intracellular forms unaffected; increased numbers extracellular merozoites present. Active produced enhanced erythrocyte staining with cationic dyes could reduced by stilbene disulfonates, inhibit growth interacting anion transport protein, AE1. Compounds P. also berghei merozoite entry reduce parasitemia infection mouse model, results these common step invasion process at least species.
