摘要: Absolute cross sections for the production of Hα (n = 3 → 2) and Hβ (n = 4 → 2) emissions by electron impact on H2 have been measured in energy ranges 20–400 eV 30–400 eV, respectively. Time‐resolved spectra were taken 50‐, 75‐, 110‐eV which s‐state decays could be definitely identified since decay times agreed with theory. All fit a two‐mode scheme, second mode having lifetime somewhat longer than d‐state theoretical lifetime. The possibility Stark mixing certain states is discussed. Cross atoms 3s 4s are estimated 50, 75, 110 eV. 3s → 2p contribution to 4s → 2p about 24% 14%, respectively, at these energies.
