摘要: New mandatory household recycling targets present a serious challenge to UK Local Authorities. Public participation in Authority schemes is key increasing levels, however, the most effective way reduce waste deal with it at source, through minimisation. Understanding minimisation behaviour achieving sustainable management and householder based projects which are theoretically underpinned by cognitive psychology promoted carefully designed marketing/communications, over long-term, should result reductions Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). Cognitive psychological modelling can provide means identify driving forces behind behaviour, given area determine main likely success factors. Once these factors have been established, cost-effective campaigns be maximise outcome. The Theory of Planned Behaviour provides framework understand explain its use this study has provided valuable insights into underpin behaviour. findings suggest that attitudes major determinant influenced firstly, having appropriate opportunities, facilities knowledge recycle, secondly, not being deterred issues physically (e.g. time, space inconvenience). Previous experience, concern for community consequences recycling, also significant predictors support proposition point purchase repair or re-use represent different dimensions thus will require strategies messages. It suggested environment community, inhibited perceptions inconvenience lack time knowledge.
