COMPLEXITY MEASURES AND NOISE EFFECTS ON DIFFUSION MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING OF THE NEURON AXONS NETWORK IN THE HUMAN BRAIN

摘要: Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging (dMRI) is a novel technique that mirrors the complex architecture of neuron axons fiber networks in human brain. Based on dMRI scans, fractal dimensions (Box Counting and Multifractal Dimensions) are used to quantify complexity networks. The values calculated as function intensity threshold τ an effort remove effects stochastic noise, always present molecular diffusion water It shown intermediate noise better for estimating network architecture, because small presence often masks underlying structure, while > 0.6 important parts axon structure ignored. Calculations multifractal healthy brains τ, give consistent scaling results medium thresholds, where activity discerned. In these scales, deviations recorded spectra pathological brains, which indicate damaged architectures.
