摘要: This paper provides a synthesis of the main issues discussed at conference (International Conference on Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) entitled: Lessons from Implementation in Developing Countries which took place 10 to 12 March 2008 Cape Town, South Africa, Town International Convention Centre) was coordinated share experiences and lessons learned implementation IWRM developing countries. discusses six themes that emerged conference. These provide perspective current status assist formulating agenda for further research approaches based learned. Firstly, although there is considerable history international acceptance IWRM, still ongoing debate how defined. However, aside these debates general agreement principles underlying potential it holds managing complex systems cannot be adequately achieved through single-sector management approach past. To overcome past paradigms, new capacity building are required. Secondly, requires balance between policy institutional support community level projects have small-scale tangible results poor. Thirdly, involves integration across many spheres, specifically groundwater into long-term water resource planning. Fourthly, endorsement importance public engagement supporting approaches, effective strategic planning ensure efforts both applicable relevant those involved. Fifthly, highlighted appropriate economic methods instruments address trade-offs decisions apparent management. Finally, data, information indicators required monitor progress with implementation.
