The Role of Parents in Young Adolescents' Competence With Peers: An Observational Study of Advice Giving and Intrusiveness

摘要: Young adolescents who encounter difficulties with peers can consult their parents to help solve these problems. In this context, study examines the contribution of adolescents’ disclosure, parental advice giving, and intrusiveness into social behavioral adjustment. (N = 93; 49% girls; mean age 12.9) took part in a problem-solving task which adolescent where observed. Several indicators adjustment were measured concurrently 1 year later by using self-reports teacher ratings. Results indicated that disclosure giving associated adjustment, whereas was longitudinally maladjustment.
