摘要: A simple model is developed to examine the performance of a supported catalytic membrane within which occurs consecutive-parallel reaction system given by + B → R, with RATE = k1pA1ApBB, and R P, k2pA2ApRR. Closed-form solutions reveal that segregation reactants opposite sides an effective strategy for increasing desired product (R) point yield. However, increases in component yield come at expense catalyst utilization, due, part, depletion reacting components R. The sensitive relative orders respect special case rates are zeroth-order (B 0). shown be most beneficial if three requirements met: (i) A1 < A2, (ii) k1, k2 sufficiently large (iii) active layer thin compared support. Under favorable conditions [requirements (i)-(iii) met], selectively produced near surface, diffuses out before further undesired (P). simulations indicate fractional attained, as degree increased, exceed decreases utilization. secondary benefit design confinement products bulk stream on side, thus reducing downstream separation needs.
