摘要: Purpose - To delineate the clinical features and alterations in innervation substance P (SP) content spontaneous chronic corneal epithelial defects (SCCED) dogs to conduct a preliminary investigation evaluating efficacy of topical SP, with or without insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1, treatment this disorder. Methods Complete ophthalmic examinations, including Cochet-Bonnet aesthesiometry, were performed 45 canine patients that had at least 3 weeks' duration no identifiable cause. Eighteen superficial keratectomies performed, nerves labeled immunohistochemically antibodies against protein gene product (PGP)-9.5, vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), tyrosine hydroxylase (TH). Relative fiber densities assessed qualitatively quantitatively. Corneal cell tear SP contents determined affected normal by an enzyme immunoassay. A open-label trial IGF-1, was conducted 21 dogs. Results The erosion before admittance into study mean 9.22 weeks (range, 3-52). average patient middle aged (mean, 9.25 +/- 1.85 years [SD]); sex predisposition disease identified. Boxers, golden retrievers, keeshonds overrepresented when compared hospital population. sensation normal. Marked identified abnormal increased calcitonin gene-related (CGRP)-immunoreactive nerve plexuses surrounding periphery defect. cells defect increased, whereas remained unchanged. Of treated 70% 75% complete healing defect. Conclusions This idiopathic shares humans. presence marked peptidergic positive response therapy suggest plays critical role wound-healing processes.
