摘要: The revised European Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes encourages community to consider feasibility transitioning from use wild-caught breeders toward exclusive captive-born in non-human primate breeding centers. Little is known about how such a transition will affect animal health, productivity and accompanying husbandry practices. These concerns are important both efficient operation facility optimal welfare its care. authors analyzed records female cynomolgus macaques (Macaca fascicularis) at between 2006 2011. Productivity was measured by proportional birth rate interbirth interval; perinatal mortality quantified cause type death; body condition estimated using recorded visual assessments. Captive-born generally showed lower productivity, higher poorer than same conditions. findings indicate that facilities might need explore new strategies address potential developmental behavioral differences breeders.
