Double-blind study of a new antimuscarinic, cimetropium bromide, in patients with irritable bowel syndrome.

摘要: Forty patients with irritable bowel syn drome were randomly allocated to treat ment octylonium bromide (20 mg TID) or cimetropium (50 BID) in a double-blind trial lasting for six weeks. Drugs taken before meals, according schedule. Clinical evaluations made of digestive and other symptoms, objective findings (pain at palpation, contracted colon, tympanites), overall effective ness treatment. Statistically significant decreases severity abdominal pain subjective scores habits obtained both groups. The only statistically differences be tween treatments nondigestive symptoms ( asthenia, palpitations, tremor, headache, etc.), which improved more the group. No severe side effects observed either treatment
