Thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation regarding Pispiza (black-tailed prairie dog, Cynomys ludovicianus)

摘要: Wildlife management decisions must be made with an understanding of the species and its relationship to stakeholders. However, relationships between Native American stakeholders Pispiza, black-tailed prairie dogs, have not been examined even though majority dog occupied habitat exists on Tribal lands. I addressed this gap in literature by examining Pispiza-related attitudes, beliefs, knowledge Rosebud Sioux Reservation. A total 109 high school students, culturally knowledgeable community members, randomly selected general members completed questionnaires administered interview style. Factor analysis stepwise regressions explored potential stakeholder groups attitudes knowledge. Factors significant effects included cultural differences ranching experience. The evidence such relationships, addition social justice, demands macro-level investigations explanations future research. Additionally, Tribes excluded from Pispiza conservation nor left shouldering “burden.”
