A Survey and Taxonomy of Urban Traffic Management: Towards Vehicular Networks

摘要: Urban Traffic Management (UTM) topics have been tackled since long time, mainly by civil engineers and city planners. The introduction of new communication technologies - such as cellular systems, satellite positioning systems inter-vehicle communications has significantly changed the way researchers deal with UTM issues. In this survey, we provide a review classification how addressed in literature. We start from recent achievements "classical" approaches to urban traffic estimation optimization, including methods based on analysis data collected fixed sensors (e.g., cameras radars), well information provided mobile phones, Floating Car Data (FCD). Afterwards, discuss presenting most works signal control vehicle routing control. Then, after recalling main concepts Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs), classify different VANET-based UTM, according three categories ("pure" VANETs, hybrid vehicular-sensor networks vehicular-cellular networks), while illustrating major research issues for each them. objective survey is comprehensive view focus order pave design development novel techniques mitigating problems, communications.
