摘要: The understanding of sulfur bonding is undergoing change. Old theories on hypervalency and the nature chalcogen-chalcogen bond are now questioned. At same time, there a rapidly expanding literature effects in regulating biological systems. two fields inter-related because new thiosulfoxide helps to explain newfound roles biology. This review examines (sulfane, S0) sulfur, history its regulatory role, generation systems, functions cells. include synthesis cofactors (molybdenum cofactor, iron-sulfur clusters), sulfuration tRNA, modulation enzyme activities, redox environment by several mechanisms (including enhancement reductive capacity glutathione). A brief analogous form selenium suggests that toxicity may be due over-reduction caused powerful activity glutathione perselenide.
