摘要: Eukaryotic cells possess distinct and double-membrane encapsulated organelles, the mitochondria. The mitochondrion is powerhouse of cell responsible for energy production through oxidative phosphorylation. A dark side its ability to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) at specific sites electron transport chain (ETC) arising from incomplete reduction molecular oxygen. not only a source toxic ROS but also their target thus becomes vulnerable attack. ROS-mediated peroxidation polyunsaturated fatty acids in mitochondrial membrane lipids leads damage injury tissue leading pathophysiological states. inner that houses ETC cellular bioenergetics possesses unique phospholipid, cardiolipin (CL), which rich susceptible ROS-induced peroxidation. Peroxidized CL has emerged as an important player mitochondria-driven oxidant lung injury, apoptotic death, diseases. This review discusses nature lipids, mechanisms consequences lipid peroxidation, lipoperoxidative Finally pharmacological interventions mitochondriopathy involved oxidant-induced respiratory diseases are discussed.
