Non-Markovian quantum fluctuations and superradiance near a photonic band edge

摘要: We discuss a point model for the collective emission of light from N two-level atoms in photonic band-gap material, each with an atomic resonant frequency near edge gap. In limit low initial occupation excited state, our system is shown to possess spectra and population statistics that are radically different free space. For high excited-state population, mean-field theory suggests fractionalized inversion macroscopic polarization steady both which can be controlled by external dc field. This state accompanied nonzero expectation value electric field operators modes located vicinity atoms. The nature homogeneous broadening band differ markedly space due non-Markovian memory effects radiation dynamics. Non-Markovian vacuum fluctuations yield partially coherent steady-state random phase. contrast conventional laser, this coherence occurs as consequence photon localization absence cavity mode. also introduce classical stochastic function same temporal correlations electromagnetic reservoir, order stochastically simulate edge. @S1050-2947~98!04511-9#
