An investigation of dimensions of cognitive appraisal in emotion using the repertory grid technique

摘要: Two studies examining dimensions of cognitive appraisals in emotion are reported. In study 1, a simplified version the repertory grid technique was used to empirically determine appraisal perceived as salient by individuals. Subjects were presented with subset possible pairings appraisal-characterized situation descriptions for each 23 common emotions, and asked indicate attributes on which compared situations differed. Evidence at least 10 potential obtained, those related valence, causality/agency, social relationship aspects, temporal aspects being mentioned most frequently. Although all roughly comparable postulated previous investigators, some them have only been given marginal attention so far, several proposed could not be recovered. Study 2 performed validate further clarify suggested first investigation, using columns prelabeled items designed assess these dimensions. Most validated; together, they permitted correct statistical classification 64% individual ratings.
