Dental knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of Indochinese and Australian‐born adolescents

摘要: – Since 1975 more than 100 000 Indochinese refugees have settled in Australia. This study compared the dental health knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of 131 107 Australian-born adolescents from a state high school Melbourne, Victoria. The subjects demonstrated highest level Kampuchean/Laotian least. Of three birthplace groups (Australia, Vietnam, Kampuchea/Laos), group were likely to believe that their was controlled by external forces. presented proportion believing they needed treatment. In contrast, however, Kampucheans Laotians had lowest perceived value preventive visits with presenting proportion. generally least favorable those most favorable, although all well short conventional ideal. One-third Kampuchean Laotian said never been dentist before. Few claimed be regular visitors dentist. Analysis data using framework Health Belief Model provided little explanatory power predicting behaviors. A greater understanding cultural variations between ethnic targeted education programs would appear beneficial strategies for improving oral risk adolescents.
