Effect of light wavelength on motility and magnetic sensibility of the magnetotactic multicellular prokaryote ‘Candidatus Magnetoglobus multicellularis’

摘要: 'Candidatus Magnetoglobus multicellularis' is a magnetotactic microorganism composed of several bacterial cells. Presently, it the best known multicellular prokaryote (MMP). Recently, has been observed that MMPs present negative photoresponse to high intensity ultraviolet and violet-blue light. In this work, we studied movement under low light different wavelengths, measuring average velocity time reorient its trajectory when external magnetic field changes direction (U-turn time). Our results show mean higher for red (628 nm) lower green (517 nm) as compared yellow (596 nm) blue (469 nm) light, U-turn decreased illumination. The wavelength dependence can be understood variation in flagella rotation speed, being increased by relative It suggested on considered form light-dependent magnetotaxis, because represents sensibility microorganisms. cellular molecular mechanisms magnetotaxis are unknown deserve further studies understand biochemical interactions ecological roles taxis MMPs.
