摘要: Abstract At least one-third of all amphibian species face the threat extinction, and current extinction rates are four orders magnitude greater than background rates. Preventing extirpation often requires both ex situ (i.e., conservation breeding programs) in strategies protecting natural habitats). Flatwoods salamanders (Ambystoma bishopi A. cingulatum) protected under U.S. Endangered Species Act. The two have decreased from 476 historical locations to 63 recently extant (86.8% loss). We suggest that recovery efforts needed increase populations prevent but uncertainty regarding optimal actions realms hinders planning. used structured decision making (SDM) address key uncertainties captive habitat restoration, we developed short-, medium-, long-term goals achieve objectives. By promoting a transparent, logical approach, SDM has proven vital plan development for flatwoods salamanders. approach clear advantages over other previous approaches efforts, it should be considered complex decisions endangered species.
