摘要: Abstract International experience has shown that extensive, systematic and structured stakeholder engagement is important in modern water resource governance. Through two case studies the Canterbury Region, we investigate emergence of deliberative participatory processes for decision-making New Zealand. We particularly focus on use evaluative criteria weightings providing structure deliberations clarity transparency processes. Some benefits using to reflect individuals' priorities include their ability bring out various perspectives preferences start increase understanding other people's points views knowledge all stakeholders. consider particular aspects Zealand context, including development specific Maori interests. These lead us conclude participation beneficial increasingly necessary resolve problems tensions around governance Canterbury's resources.
