摘要: As urban systems continue to grow worldwide, peripheries increase in number and typologies, which makes their planning a challenge for sustainable development. The aim of this article is explore approaches challenges related the application peripheries. We reviewed content 102 papers by applying framework built on two main research questions that address: i) type considered; ii) recommendations reported. results show are difficult synthesize operative classifications, not central discourse approaches. studies described mainly context-specific solution-oriented, aimed at responding local socio-economic ecological issues, analysis reveals uncertainties about transferability other geographical contexts. Few common trends can be highlighted, but many authors acknowledge cross-cutting risks trade-offs complexity dynamism peripheries, may eventually lead unsustainable or unlivable outcomes. Integration among different scales sectors emerges as requirement effective planning. conclude with remark underexploited opportunities offered especially regard
