摘要: Eclipsing binaries (EBs) measure distance without need or use for nearby similar objects, with many applications over recent decades. EBs are now considered the most reliable and accurate indicators very important lower rungs in cosmic ladder, within Local Group of Galaxies. Among several EB algorithms, direct comparison observed theoretical fluxes is particularly straightforward, although it requires absolute flux calibrations which only a modest number publications exist. Here, we UBV RI uvby calibration ratios from astronomical objects ways not previously tried, specifically EBs, single stars 80 pc, Sun. All below about 6500 K temperature. Interstellar extinction avoided by restriction to targets. Some photometric band literature enough good determinations if star temperatures accurately known, especially considering that estimated has square-root dependence on constant, but band-to-band keys combined temperature-distance problem. Band-independent canceling factors (star radii distances) allow ratio measurement enhanced accuracy, compared individual calibrations. A physical model withmore » embedded stellar atmosphere emission optimally matches theory observations binaries. Single candidates identified as reliably their radial velocity variations 100 m s{sup -1}. For part, find agreement some previous improved.« less
