摘要: The neurovascular unit (NVU) comprises brain endothelial cells, pericytes or vascular smooth muscle glia and neurons. NVU controls blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability cerebral blood flow, maintains the chemical composition of neuronal 'milieu', which is required for proper functioning circuits. Recent evidence indicates that BBB dysfunction associated with accumulation several vasculotoxic neurotoxic molecules within parenchyma, a reduction in hypoxia. Together, these vascular-derived insults might initiate and/or contribute to degeneration. This article examines mechanisms neurodegenerative disorders, notably Alzheimer's disease, highlights therapeutic opportunities relating deficits.
