Prospective Study of the Effect of Exposure to Other Smokers in High School Tutor Groups on the Risk of Incident Smoking in Adolescence

摘要: Adolescent smokers tend to have peers who smoke, but it is unclear whether this arises from self-selection of smoking or a causal effect on the uptake (incident smoking). The authors used school tutor group current prevalence, an unbiased measure peer in high schools United Kingdom, estimate independent incident among students. In prospective cohort study children aged 13-15 years (grades 9 and 10) 10 Nottinghamshire, behavior was surveyed 2,881 students 2000, survey repeated 2,109 (73%) 2001. There were 267 (15%) 1,766 nonsmokers 2000. adjusted odds significantly higher girls, with parents siblings relation prevalence 2000 (relative for highest relative lowest quartile = 1.78, 95% confidence interval: 1.20, 2.64).
