Diagnostic value of sialic acid in malignant pleural effusions.

摘要: In this study, we measured pleural fluid and serum sialic acid levels in 70 consecutive patients hospitalized with effusions concentrations 20 healthy individuals chosen as control group. The cause of 26 was malignancy, diseases other than malignant neoplasms were determined the 44 cases. Mean malignancies higher nonmalignant level increased compared group, but increase not high that malignancies. neoplasms, mean content also found diseases. Sialic concentration correlated concentration. However, to ratio greater others. specificity sensitivity excess 0.075 mg/ml distinguishing 68 percent 77 percent, respectively. These values for fluid/serum cut-off 0.7 55 65 percent. Our findings indicate determination has a diagnostic value.
