摘要: This article traces the development of industrial policy towards Indonesian motor industry within automotive global value chain. Showing current dominance Japanese assemblers in Indonesia, it notes rather undeveloped nature locally owned supporting industry, particularly compared with that neighbouring Thailand. Most investment auto-parts production has been by foreigners. Nevertheless, Indonesia's rapid domestic-market growth allowed to attract foreign without having offer excessively generous incentives. While continued entry suppliers auto parts into Indonesia offers opportunities for local upgrade their productive capabilities, also limits chances becoming first-tier themselves. investors are optimistic about export potential, more so than Malaysia's.
