摘要: A sudden and dramatic mesospheric heating event was observed over Haleakala, Maui, on October 21, 1993 (day 294), during the ALOHA-93 Campaign. It consisted of a persistent, narrow temperature-inversion layer about 3-4 km wide near 87 altitude with peak temperature rise approaching 40 k, lasting for 3.5 hours. Owing to large number ground-based instruments recording event, it is possible attempt seek out physical explanation this rise. There powerful evidence suggest that associated energy deposition, direct indirect, resulting from gravity wave/critical interaction. Indeed, lidar wind profiles wave structures simultaneously CCD imagers reveal presence critical at appropriate altitude. The data also show unstable background profile 2-3 thickness in immediate vicinity layer. We will quantitatively there sufficient available dissipation instability winds account heating. After has disappeared, subsides, again becomes stable all height levels interest.
