摘要: The success and sustainability of control measures aimed at reducing the transmission mosquito-borne diseases will depend on how they influence fitness mosquitoes in targeted populations. We investigated effects microsporidian parasite Vavraia culicis survival, blood-feeding behaviour reproductive female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, main vector dengue. Infection reduced survival to adulthood increased adult mosquito age-dependent mortality relative uninfected individuals; this additional was closely correlated with number spores harboured when died. In first gonotrophic cycle, infected females were less likely blood-feed, took smaller meals did so, developed fewer eggs than females. Even though conditions laboratory study favoured minimal developmental times, costs infection already being experienced by time reached an age which could reproduce. These results suggest there be selection pressure for evolve resistance against pathogen if it is used as agent a program reduce human diseases.
