Assessing academic department efficiency at a public university

摘要: The assessment of public universities has gained importance because the demands from such state government bodies as executive and legislature. Public are increasingly being asked to account for how efficiently they have used diminishing financial resources. Administrators thus responsibility ensuring that university's financial, human, physical resources allocated academic departments in a manner enhances institution's efficiency. In this paper, data envelopment analysis (DEA) is proposed evaluating efficiency at university. DEA provides single measure each unit. It also identifies causes behind inefficiencies exhibited by poor performing units, well changes these units need make order improve their efficiencies. Its usefulness planning tool discussed.
