摘要: Abstract Background The development of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is closely related to fetal immaturity, although the participation inflammatory mechanisms also seems be likely. We previously reported high interleukin-10 (IL-10) levels in cord blood from preterm infants. In present study, we investigate possible role IL-10 and IL-12 newborns with RDS, a disease that gestational age Patients methods Cord (p70 + p40) were determined by ELISA 20 infants who later developed 21 without RDS 31 full term newborns. 11 patients follow-up samples could obtained between 2 14 days life Results Preterm showed higher (27 vs 10.8 pg/mL; p: 0.0003) lower (188 384; 0.002) than premature (IL-10: 3.2 pg/mL, 0.0001; IL-12: 352 0.002). differences remained statistically significant after correction for effect both groups Conclusions results may an immature cytokine response infants, but IL-12/IL-10 imbalance found our supports hypothesis inflammation plays
