摘要: Objective To study the prevalence of lens opacities in a well-defined Swedish population. Design Population-based cross-sectional study. Participants Seven hundred inhabitants town Skovde, Sweden were randomly selected and invited to an ophthalmologic examination. Invited persons 70 84 years old assigned 1 3 age groups: 74, 75 79, or 80 84. Methods All participants underwent visual acuity (VA) testing using Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study chart. Lens graded Opacities Classification System III after pupil dilation. Causes impairment, other than cataract, identified by thorough Main Outcome Measure Prevalence opacities. Results Five sixty-five complete examination (participation rate, 80.7%). As expected, presence increased with age.
