摘要: Background Monthly skin self-examination (SSE) is associated with reduced incidence of advanced melanoma, but SSE prone to error in detecting early changes melanoma. Objective We sought improve accuracy by requiring participants complete a mole-mapping diagram. Methods After completing baseline survey, received instruction, had their backs digitally photographed, and half were randomized Some photographs altered adding an image 5-mm pigmented lesion. At follow-up, asked identify any introduced photographs. Results A total 88 completed the study. In all, 33% (n = 15) control group (no diagram) 52% 22) intervention (mole-mapping ( P .06) gave accurate assessments. Analysis only images indicated that more assessments (60% vs 33%, .01). Limitations This study was limited sample size, addressed lesions on back, did not involve actual melanomas participants. Conclusions Mole-mapping diagrams may accuracy, be useful as simple, cost-effective reducing melanoma mortality.
