Desmoplastic malignant melanoma on the buttock of an 18-year-old girl : Differentiation from desmoplastic nevus

摘要: Melanocytic proliferation in young people may sometimes pose a diagnostic dilemma. This is particularly so when desmoplastic component present. Because the two main differential diagnoses, malignant melanoma and Spitz nevus, share some morphologic features, diagnosis of be overlooked. Distinction between important because they show completely different biological behavior. The age patient, site lesion, histologic findings melanocytic atypia, neurotropism, mitosis, maturation help to distinguish entities. We report case occurring buttock an 18-year-old Chinese girl. Histologically, it had typical features with junctional atypia prominent neurotropism. Clinical differences nevus are reviewed. conclude that although occurs much more commonly adolescents, can occur this group even non-sun-exposed skin. Microscopic remain mainstay guides final diagnosis.
