Evaluating the effectiveness of virtual environment displays for displaying 3D models and tasks in construction

摘要: Conventionally, 2D paper-based CAD drawings are mainly used to view, extract, change, and exchange project information. This may lead potential design constructability conflicts. Through the use of 3D models in a Virtual Environment (VE), intent can be reviewed modified during virtual interactive sessions, hence minimizing or even avoid paper presents results an experiment compare evaluate effectiveness five VE displays review construction models. The involved using subjects from AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) industry that viewed performed specific tasks on were CAVE™ (Cave Automated Environment), Head Mounted Display (HMD), Immersive-Workbench (IWB), 1.5 meter hemispherical display desktop monitor. Based subjects’ comments, summaries tradeoffs all gathered tabulated.
