摘要: Understanding how ethanol influences behavior is key to deciphering the mechanisms of action and alcoholism. In mammals, low doses stimulate locomotion, whereas high depress it. The acute stimulant effect has been proposed be a manifestation its rewarding effects. Drosophila, exposure transiently potentiates locomotor activity in biphasic dose- time-dependent manner. An initial short-lived peak corresponds an olfactory response ethanol. A second, longer-lasting period increased coincides with rising internal concentrations; these closely parallel concentrations that locomotion mammals. High-resolution analysis walking pattern individual flies revealed consists bouts activity; bout structure can quantified by frequency, length, time spent at speeds. Ethanol induces both dramatic dynamic changes structure. Mutants sensitivity show distinct ethanol-induced behavior, as well genotype-specific Thus, overall on Drosophila caused discrete quantifiable parameters pattern. effects are comparable suggesting suitable model system study underlying mechanisms.
