摘要: Abstract A 5 year study was undertaken in Kielder Forest to examine changes pellet group counts, direct observations, body weight and potential fertility a population of roe deer Capreolus capreolus subjected heavy hunting pressure. Over the period, mean number groups per plot observed hour declined consistently while hours effort required remove one increased. Measuring rate accumulation permanent sample plots over 6 month periods appeared provide reliable method monitoring density, as did systematic collection observational data. Based on estimates derived from reduced density 12.0 3.0 km−1 period. In latter stages, removed equal or greater than estimated size, suggesting that immigration surrounding forest area major factor affecting density. Despite significant reduction average corpora lutea present female apparently unaffected, habitat quality (rather density), main determinant fertility.
