Familial and Social Influences on Juvenile Gambling Behavior

摘要: Social learning theory maintains that individuals model, learn and maintain behaviors are observed, appealing reinforcing. As such, parents family members can often serve as significant models for gambling. Four hundred seventy seven children between the ages of 9 14 completed a questionnaire inquiring about their gambling activities, including where with whom occurs, well information concerning perceptions own behavior. Results indicate 86% who gamble regularly reported members. Fifty-three percent students gambled within previous 12 months siblings, 40% parents, 46% other relatives, 75% in homes. Students' responses also indicated friends (75%), alone (18%), strangers (8%). children's age increases they tend to more at friend's homes school. Prevalence rates 81% total sample had one point lives 52% those once week or more. Eleven makes them feel important, 27% than desire do so, only 10% grade 8 fear being caught gambling, suggesting activities be socially acceptable Several clinical research questions addressed.
