摘要: Abstract Ethnopharmacological relevance A total of 28 plant extracts, belonging to 26 different species are commonly used in Traditional Mexican Medicine for the treatment gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhea. Aim study To evaluate effect medicinal extracts on induced hyperperistalsis rats. Materials and methods Charcoal meal test was this study. Extracts were tested at a dose 300 mg/kg. Results From all tested, only Geranium mexicanum (roots) showed 100% inhibition. The Artemisia absinthium , Matricaria recutita Caesalpinia pulcherrima Lygodium venustum Chenopodium ambrosoides (green variety), Aloysia triphylla ludoviciana Chiranthodendron pentadactylon Cocos nucifera moderate inhibitory activity with values ranging from 30 57%. Their activities greater than that or equal loperamide (34% inhibition doses 10 mg/kg) drug control. remaining plants exhibited marginal null hyperpropulsive movement small intestine. Conclusions results obtained give some scientific support popular use 23 diarrhea traditional medicine. However, roots should be herbal medicine care avoid toxicity.
