University contributions to environmental sustainability: challenges and opportunities from the Lithuanian case

摘要: Abstract Higher education plays an important role in shaping ecologically sound society. By greening the campus, initiating internal and external policies activities, including all stakeholders educational process, universities can contribute to environmental awareness behaviour and, turn, sustainability. Research Central Eastern European countries this field is rather limited; moreover, there a lack of resumptive methods evaluating university contributions Thus, aim study evaluate sustainability opportunities at Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania. The results show that courses for students might be importance, especially when trying reach who are not environmentally committed. Regarding university's official policies, analysis shows still early phases building consistent Furthermore, intentions quite often “locked in”. promoting must more continuous, than fragmented occasional.
