摘要: Existing research has found a positive association between countries' level of democratic governance and the health their populations, although that is limited by use data from small numbers high-income countries or aggregate do not assess individual-level outcomes. We extend prior using multilevel World Health Survey (2002-2004) on 313,554 individuals in 67 countries, find self-rated persists after adjusting for both individual- country-level confounders. However, mechanisms linking democracy remain unclear. Individual-level measures socioeconomic status, economic inequality investments public education, significantly mediate health. The persistent suggests political organization societies may be an important upstream determinant population
