Engaging tensions: methodological reflections from Australia on Community-Based Participatory Housing Research

摘要: Increasingly, applied researchers and Indigenous communities are genuinely seeking common ground to undertake research projects that particularly attentive issues of ownership outcomes. Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) has been embraced globally as a best practice methodological framework for engaging in communities, especially at the cultural interface where different knowledge systems meet. This article reviews authors’ experiences with challenging enriching aspects tensions encountered when using CBPR approach during an housing project regional Western Australia. Consistent many processes, number emerged this cross- intra-cultural process. They related multiple (and sometimes competing) expectations regarding what constitutes genuine partnership; procurement flows funding; data collection; translation mediums activities. We conclude challenges opens up critical dynamic spaces shifting power relationships asserting new models outcomes with, for, Australian communities.
