摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter reviews the progress that has been made in characterization of enzymes and genes involved synthesis triterpenoid saponins. The enzyme is unusual it more closely related to lanosterol synthases from animals fungi than other oxidosqualene cyclases (triterpenoid or cycloartenol synthases) plants. β-amyrin synthase (AsbAS1) required for avenacin saponins resistance a variety pathogens, indicating avenacins contribute disease oat. AsbAS1 as yet uncharacterized saponin biosynthesis have potential development plants with altered content through metabolite engineering. In some cases, enhanced levels novel may be beneficial (for example, drug production improved resistance), while others objective reduce undesirable (such those associated antinutritional effects legumes).
