摘要: article i nfo Background: Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni has been used for the treatment of diabetes in, example, Brazil, although a positive effect on antidiabetic and its complications not unequivocally demonstrated. This herb also numerous therapeutic properties which have proven safe effective over hundreds years. Streptozotocin is potential source oxidative stress that induces genotoxicity. Objective: We studied effects stevia leaves extracted polyphenols fiber streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. hypothesize supplementation extract from to diet causes reduction in complications. Design/Methods: Eighty Wistar rats were randomly divided into 8 groups; standard control was supplemented with either whole powder (4.0%) or separately fed one month. (60 mg/kg body weight, i.p) injected groups 31st day. Several indices analyzed assess modulation stress, toxicity blood glucose levels by stevia. Results: The results showed glucose, ALT AST, increment insulin level compared group. Its feeding reduced MDA concentration liver improved antioxidant status through enzymes. Glucose tolerance sensitivity their feeding. found induce kidney damage as evidenced decreased glomerular filtration rate; this change however alleviated polyphenol groups. Conclusion: suggested do significant role alleviating STZ-diabetic besides hypoglycemic effect. It might be adequate conclude could protect against diabetes, reduce risk ameliorate damage.
