摘要: The placenta is an indispensable organ for intrauterine protection, development and growth of the embryo fetus. It provides tight contact between mother conceptus, enabling exchange gas, nutrients waste products. human discoidal in shape, bears a hemo-monochorial interface as well villous materno-fetal interdigitations. Since Peter Medawar's astonishment to paradoxical nature mother-fetus relationship 1953, substantial knowledge domain placental physiology has been gathered. In present essay, attempt made build integrated understanding morphological dynamics, cell biology, functional aspects genomic proteomic expression early trophoblast cells followed by commentary on future directions research this field.
