摘要: BACKGROUND Vitamin D deficiency is a public health problem around the world. Diabetes has been associated with vitamin deficiency. We aimed to examine association between status and diabetes in clinic based sample of Hispanic adults Puerto Rico. METHODS Demographics laboratory test results for serum 25(OH)D, Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG), Haemoglobin A1C (HbAlc) were extracted from medical records. was classified as deficient (<12 ng/ml); inadequate (12-20 insufficient (21-29 ng/ml) optimal (≥30 using 25(OH)D levels. RESULTS A total 716 records included analyses. Most females (63.3%), mean age 54.1±14.9 y, BMI 30.1±6.3 kg/m2 levels 24.3±8.6 ng/ml. diabetics (41.1%). Those had lower compared pre-diabetic normal glucose (p<0.05). Serum 25(OH) inversely correlated FBG HbA1c men After adjusting age, gender, seasonality, there greater risk diabetes, but not prediabetes, those <30 This increased 1.8 times insufficiency 4.2 ng/ml). CONCLUSION significantly decreased this group adults, underscoring importance routinely screening high individuals offer supplementation normalize
